Overnight Oatmeal – With 12 Mix In Ideas

Oatmeal is one of my favorite breakfast meal choices in the morning.  I love its simpleness, richness and warmth.  It is the perfect base for hundreds of mix in possibilities.  Oatmeal is full of fiber, can help lower blood cholesterol, stabilize blood glucose levels and contains a wide array of vitamins and minerals.

 When I first heard of a no cook oatmeal recipe I was a bit skeptical.  I have been eating oatmeal my whole life and one thing I knew for sure was that oatmeal needed to be cooked.  However, I was very curious as to what this no cook method was so I decided to test it out.  After I tried overnight oatmeal I was a firm believer and quite honestly I do not know if I can ever go back to the traditional way of eating oatmeal ever again!

Overnight Oatmeal

2/3 cup oats

2/3 cup milk of your choice 

Optional: Sweetener of your choice

Optional: Mix ins of your choice (some ideas below)

Combine ingredients in a mason jar.  Shake and place lid on jar.  Store in the refrigerator overnight.  In the morning the oatmeal will be ready to serve as is, or it can be warmed up in the microwave.  Below is a list of mix ins ideas.  This mix ins can be added to the mason jar along with the oatmeal overnight.  

Berry Mix In

1 tablespoon blueberry jam

fresh or frozen blueberries

Banana Mix In

1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

banana slices and chopped pecans

Pumpkin Mix In

2 tablespoons pumpkin puree

1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of cinnamon

Pinch of nutmeg

1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

Mango Mix In

1 tablespoon brown sugar

Sliced mango

Cinnamon Raisin Mix In

2 tablespoons raisins

Pinch of cinnamon

Honey Almond Mix In 

1 tablespoon Honey

1 tablespoon crushed almonds

Chocolate Strawberry Mix In

1 tablespoon honey

1 teaspoon cocoa powder

2 strawberries (hulled and sliced)

Carrot Cake Mix In

2 tablespoons shredded carrot

1 tablespoon maple syrup

1 tablespoon pecan, chopped

A pinch of cinnamon

Banana Nut Bread Mix In

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon nut butter

1 tablespoon walnuts, chopped

Banana, Sliced

Pina Colada Mix In

1 tablespoon honey

1 teaspoon coconut, shredded

1 tablespoon almonds, crushed

Pineapple, diced 

Cranberry Almond

2 tablespoons dried cranberries

1 tablespoon maple syrup

1 tablespoon almonds, crushed 

Cinnamon Apple

3 tablespoons applesauce (chunky kind is best)

A pinch of cinnamon
